Five days a week, our dedicated staff and volunteers rescue food donations from local grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, farms, and other food producers. By doing this we are able to both reduce food waste AND increase food security in the Gallatin Valley!
Food Rescue provides us with a wide range of items, including fresh produce, pre-made food, dairy products, frozen food (meat and pre-cooked), non-perishable food, and even vegan and gluten free items. Nothing goes to waste as food that has gone bad or has exceeded the standards for its sell-by date is composted or sent with local farmers as animal fodder.
Last fiscal year, we rescued 932,316 pounds of food from local partners. Over 85,599 pounds of food that we could not use in our store were distributed to local farmers as animal fodder!
